Upgrade of infrastructure at the Port of Alexandroupolis: Restoration of depths in the port basin and navigation channel – Road connection to the new Alexandroupolis ring road

On 21 November 2023, the Board of Directors of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (HRADF) approved the tender dossier for the implementation of projects with a total budget of €24 million, covering the following interventions:

  • Restoration of depths (dredging) in the port basin and navigation channel of the port, through the removal of sediment deposits that have accumulated from late 2015 to date (budget: €18.5 million, excluding VAT).
  • Road connection of the new commercial pier of the Port of Alexandroupolis with the new Eastern Ring Road, which is already under construction. The project provides for the construction of a 1,500-meter road axis within the port’s land zone, in accordance with the technical specifications of the existing Master Plan. The road connection will enable the diversion of the port’s commercial traffic towards the Egnatia Motorway via the Alexandroupolis Ring Road, bypassing the urban fabric. This will both facilitate access for port users and decongest traffic within the city (budget: €5.5 million, excluding VAT).

On 16 May 2024 and 29 May 2025, contracts were signed for the two components, amounting to €4.1 million and €13.7 million respectively (excluding VAT).

The projects are scheduled for completion by summer 2026.
