Storage Systems for Businesses

Project Key Facts

Budget: €153,740,000.00
Duration: Until 30.04.2026
Funding: 100% financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (RRF)

Purpose

The “Storage Systems for Businesses” Programme provides grants to businesses, regardless of size or sector of economic activity, for the installation of storage systems in photovoltaic (PV) systems (in which only the storage system is subsidized), or for the installation of a storage system (battery) in already existing and operational photovoltaic systems (in which again only the storage system is subsidized).

Impact

The Programme applies across the entire Greek territory and is expected to generate significant benefits, both for beneficiaries and for the national economy overall. It is expected to contribute to the achievement of the energy and climate objectives set out in the National Energy and Climate Plan (NECP), and consequently to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.

The Project aims to improve the energy efficiency of buildings and to reduce primary energy consumption, in line with the targets set in the NECP.

To ensure compliance with the technical guidance on the application of the “No Significant Harm” principle (2021/C 58/01), the eligibility criteria included in the calls for proposals explicitly exclude the following activities:

  1. Activities related to fossil fuels, including downstream use.
  2. Activities under the EU Emissions Trading System (EU ETS) where projected greenhouse gas emissions are not lower than the relevant benchmarks.
  • Activities related to landfills, incinerators, and mechanical–biological treatment facilities.
  1. Activities involving long-term waste disposal that may cause environmental harm.

Beneficiaries and Implementation

Businesses from the primary, secondary, and tertiary sectors are expected to benefit from the Project. The investments will have a significant impact on the economy, sustainability, and the green transition.

Growthfund’s Project Preparation Facility (PPF) Unit is responsible for the project’s preparation and coordination, through the Technical Assistance it provides to the Ministry of Environment and Energy. The services offered by Growthfund aim to support and strengthen the Ministry in the effective implementation of the “Storage Systems for Businesses” Programme. These services include advisory support for the design, preparation, management, and monitoring of the Project, as well as communication and publicity services.

The action is implemented under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0” with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
