By decision of the Government Committee for Strategic Projects on March 4 2024, the Project Preparation Facility (PPF) was appointed as the authority responsible for the project’s preparation, the conduct of the tender process, and the monitoring of its implementation, for the project titled “Restoration of operational depths at the Port of Volos following the severe weather events Daniel & Elias”, with the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy acting as the Beneficiary.
As a result of the two extreme weather events, sediment deposits estimated at 700,000 cubic meters – based on surveys carried out by the Volos Port Authority – accumulated in the port basin, causing significant operational issues for vessel berthing at the port.
On October 21, 2024, PPF launched the relevant tender procedure. On 23 December 2024, a contract worth €7.6 million was signed for the implementation of the project.
